Where you from?
I was born and raised in East Tennessee. (Bristol, actually. Right in the corner.) I grew up 3 miles from the Bristol International Speedway, which is considered the fastest half mile in the country. (I’m not as fast as that half mile and I’ve never actually been to a race there.)
Where you now?
I live in Joppa.
Who you with?
I have been married to my beautiful and encouraging wife Melanie for more than 13 years. We have three children, ages 9, 7, & 4.
What do you do in here?
I am considered the Sr. Minister around here, which means I talk a lot.
What do you do out there?
Having 3 kids keeps me and Melanie on the go. So with their lives, opportunities, and experiences – our schedules are pretty full. But I certainly enjoy watching just about any sport. (Can’t pull the trigger on hockey though.) I coach many of my kids’ sports teams. I love going to the movies. I love playing basketball. I love going to the beach. And I read as much as possible.
What do you hear?
Coldplay, Switchfoot, Linkon Park, Mute Math, Silversun Pickups, U2, Aaron Copeland, Velvet Revolver
What do you eat?
I’m always up for a good steak. I also really enjoy breakfast foods…eggs, cereal, juice, and being from the south…biscuits and gravy if I can find it. (Ironically, I don’t eat breakfast all that often.)
Where do you shop?
It’s not good for the budget whenever I go into Dick’s Sporting Goods. So I go when Melanie gives me the go ahead. Other than that, it all depends on what’s needed. (I’d prefer not to.)
Where do you browse?
Anything related to the University of Tennessee football program, USA today, ESPN, youtube
What do you read?
Anything by Frederick Buechner, Soren Kierkegaard, Fred Craddock, Max DePree, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Eugene Peterson, Henri Nouwen, about anything on family, marriage, leadership, the church, a whole bunch of Bible commentaries, and the good ol’ trusty Sports Illustrated.
What do you watch?
A compelling game, ESPN, 24 (Usually the whole season all at once), Letterman, the news, and I love going to the movies.
What you got coming up?
I’m coaching some rec teams and even a travel baseball team this spring. After a couple of years off because of back surgery, I’m jumping back in to play in a basketball league, I’m trying to grow a plant in my sunroom (you don’t know how hard that is for me), I’ll get away with some friends to watch all 49 games of the first two rounds of the NCAA basketball tournament. (Best weekend of the year.)
What you got weird?
I’ve literally had only 1 sip of coffee in my life. (Thanks Blake.)
