Hello from Haiti!

Today we assisted the very first medical clinic in La Baie. People were lined up to be seen when we woke up in the morning. We were able to treat roughly 50 people with everything from ringworm, dehydration, a dislocated hip and severe wound infections. A mother brought her little boy who was literally starving. The amount of trust that these people were willing to put in complete strangers was truly amazing. We wish we could’ve done so much more.

Please continue to pray for the work God is doing in this place and that we would be a tremendous blessing to the people we are serving.

Hey gang, I hope you’re enjoying all this humidity!

We just got this update from our team in Haiti and wanted to pass it along to you. It would be awesome if you could take the time to say a prayer for them while they’re gone.

UPDATE:
After 17 hours of travel we arrived in St. Louis du Nord to a warm meal, devotions, and then much needed sleep. In our first two days we’ve taken a tour of the mission, visited Ansafelour and prayed around a voodoo temple as well as went to the ocean, played with the children, visited the elderly home, taught English, and took food to the elderly in the neighborhood around the mission.

We’ve already shared the most incredible experiences and adventures and our hearts are moved deeply.

More to come in a few days!

Instead of traveling hundreds of miles away to serve, we are going to find and meet needs right here in Baltimore. Many times when we think about service trips our initial thought is of a third world country and severe poverty. The truth is, there are people in our own neighborhoods and community who are in desperate need of service. We want to teach students that following Jesus and serving others begins right where you are. Make sure you pick a trip packet in the lobby at CCC today.

One of the projects they will be working on is finishing the roof on the church and school in Pontezuela. Several of the folks on the trip have been on short term service trips before, but a few of them are going for the very first time. Spending this week serving in the Dominican Republic will potentially be life changing for them. It is difficult to experience the level of poverty they will be exposed to and not have it drastically affect your life. Pray for their safety and for God to work through them and in them. It’s wonderful to have friends from our CCC community serving and blessing around the world.

With all of this snow still on the ground, I couldn’t be more ready for this summer, and when I think about summer I think about Student Ministry Summer Service Trips. Due to the snow the past few weeks, the deadline for the Student Ministry Service Trips has been extended to this Sunday, February 21st.

These trips were created so that students from CCC would have the opportunity to experience a culture and an environment different from their own. Our hope is to see every student from CCC participate on one of the Summer Service Trips. For more information about each trip, check out the Sign Up table in the lobby at CCC.

Besides the Summer Service Trips, there are a lot of other things happening over the next few months just for students here at CCC. Make sure to grab a Student Ministry Newsletter and a Summer Trip Schedule at the sign up table this Sunday!

If you’ve been considering going on a service trip this year, you can still jump on the Dominican team. It’s not too late. Even though the trip isn’t until June 12, the team is forming now. There has been a lot of interest, and we are in the process of meeting with each person to go over some of the details of the trip, answer any questions, and have a chance to get to know each other a little.

Making new friends is a fun part of any service trip. We really get to know people on a deeper level when we step out of our normal environment and regular routine and spend a week together. It is such a unique opportunity to put aside our schedules, blackberries, agendas and ipods and see what God will do in our lives when we spend a week serving in his name. For those that are ready to take this step and join the team, I’ll bet the week spent in the Dominican Republic will be the highlight of the year.

February 7 is the last day to sign up and get some information on the trip. You can sign up in the lobby at CCC or email leighann@communitycc.net

The Student Ministry at CCC values many different things. One of our values is fun. When we plan an event or a trip we ask ourselves, “Will this event be the most fun a student can have?” We also value safety. Safety is always at the forefront of our minds when we plan and execute programming for students.

Another value for the Student Ministry at CCC is service. We believe that students should have opportunities to not only learn to follow Jesus but also have some real opportunities to serve as well. For that reason, over the past two summers, the only trips we have offered for both middle and high school students have been service trips. We want to ingrain the importance of service in our summer trips. We hope when students evaluate how they can spend their summer, they will automatically want to serve. When it came time to plan this year’s summer trips we immediately began thinking of the best service trip opportunities for CCC students. Check out this year’s summer service trips:

Middle School – LIVE out LOUD
From July 12th until July 17th middle school students from CCC will go to Lancaster, PA for LIVE out LOUD. LIVE out LOUD will help students recognize the heart of service through repairing, renovating and transforming houses. Not only will students be doing minor home repair, but they will also come to an understanding of the awesome relationship that Jesus offers through worship, small group discussions, and relationships with trip leaders.

High School – Dominican Republic
From June 19th until June 26th high school students from CCC will go to the Dominican Republic for their summer service trip. In the Dominican we will partner with David & Virginia Savage. David & Virginia have been working in the Dominican for over 30 years doing local church planting. While there students will have the opportunity to do church construction, programming for children, and other community projects. The Dominican Republic trip can be a life changing experience for any student that goes.

It is the hope of the CCC Student Ministry Team that every student will go on one of these trips. Trip packets will be available Sunday, December 20th at the information table in the lobby at CCC. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, ryan.arnold@communitycc.net
