The next Member’s Dinner is happening at CCC on Friday evening, February 10th from 7pm-9pm. If you’ve been to Starting Point and you’re calling CCC your home, then a next step is our Member’s Dinner. Dinner is provided, as is childcare. It’s all free, but sign up is needed. It’s a great place to meet folks who might be new on the CCC journey or to connect with folks you’ve been journeying with already. Something Everyone Should Experience

If you’re new to Community Christian Church, then Starting Point is for you. (Even if you’re not new, Starting Point is something everyone should experience.) It’s the place to find out all things related to CCC. (Where we’ve come from, where we’re going, how we’re going to get there, what it means to be a part of CCC, etc. It’s a perfect place to ask any specific questions you might have about our church or the Christian faith overall.)

The next Starting Point takes place this Sunday, January 29th from 1pm-3:30pm in rooms 108-109. Lunch and childcare are provided. It’s free, but sign up is required. To sign up for Starting Point you can simply email signmeup@communitycc.net or sign up our website here.

Dealing With Divorce Group for Students

We are hosting a brand new five week small group to specifically help equip students in our community who are currently struggling in the aftermath of a divorce. The group will meet on Sunday afternoons, 1:30-3:00 p.m. from October 23 through November 20. We will cover a broad range of topics students deal with as a result of experiencing a divorce. The cost for the small group is $10, to cover the materials and a meal together the last week of the group. If you have any questions, contact Chris Beach at chris.beach@communitycc.net.

Fit to Be Tied

It’s not a Joan Jett and the Blackhearts album. (Although it is.) Nor is it a shoe store. (Although it’s that too.) And it’s not a Tom and Jerry short film. (Although it’s that as well.) At CCC, Fit-To-Be-Tied is a 7 week small group experience for couples looking to prepare to take the huge step of marriage. The next session is open to couples who might already be married, but never had a chance to go through a small group like this. We explore a myriad of angles surrounding a marriage relationship, including conflict and communication, personality styles, love languages, marriage boundaries, sex, money, what the Bible has to say about love and marriage, etc. The next session of Fit-To-Be-Tied (Not the Quiet Riot song) is scheduled to kick off on the first Tuesday of April. Starter Small Group

If you’re wondering what a next step might be for you at CCC, a Starter Small Group might be the answer. This small group runs for 6 weeks, meets right here at CCC, and is lead by Nic Cox, our Minister and Coordinator of Small Groups. It’s a real safe place to explore some central premises of our church and Christianity overall. It’s also a great first experience with Small Groups if you’ve never been a part of one before. New to the Bible Group

Have you ever been given the impression the Bible is an easy book to read and understand? It isn’t (as anyone who’s tried to read Leviticus can attest to). Each and every week here at CCC we read from and talk about the Bible. The Bible is not just a book but is our guide for faith and practice given to us by God.

Yet, there are many people who just don’t know anything about the Bible.

We’re starting a new small group to help people who are new to the Bible understand this complex book. Beginning February 10^th, a group will meet for 10 weeks at CCC from 7-8:30 PM to learn more about the Bible.

If you’ve ever tried to read the Bible but found yourself completely lost, this group is for you. If you want to know how to understand the different parts of the Bible, this group is for you. If you are brand new to the Christian faith and want to learn how to navigate the Bible, this group is for you.

Grief Share

Life can be really hard sometimes, especially when we are dealing with the loss of a loved one. There are so many things to sort through and wrestle with when we come face to face with the death of someone we care about deeply. During times of grief it is important to be a part of a community who can support, care for, and understand what we’re going through. The ironic thing about grief, though, is the common reaction is to seek isolation.

Grief Share is a small group committed to learning how to walk the journey of grief and be supported along the way. It is a place where hurting people can begin to find healing and hope. Grief Share is a 13 week group that meets on Tuesdays at CCC from 7:00-8:30PM, beginning March 1^st.

If you are struggling through grief you, should join the Grief Share group. No one should have to walk through grief alone.

Divorce Care Small Group

Divorce and separation lead to many different struggles in a person’s life. At CCC we want to partner with people journeying through this difficult situation and help them find healing and wholeness.

Divorce Care is a group that meets to help people who have had a divorce or separation. Whether it’s happened recently or if it’s been years, Divorce Care’s goal is to help people heal from the hurt and pain of a divorce or separation. Divorce Care meets on Tuesdays at 7PM here at CCC, and you can jump in at any time.

One of the areas divorce and separation affects is our finances. We will be hosting a Financial Seminar specifically for people who are going through a divorce or separation. This seminar will cover Maryland divorce laws affecting marital property, spousal support, child support, equitable distribution of assets between spouses, and much more. The seminar will be on Saturday, February 19^thfrom 8AM – 6 PM and the cost is $35.

One Month to Live Series Alignment

Even the best made cars can get out of alignment from time to time, and it’s important to make sure everything is centered as it should be. The same is true of us. Once a year we have an alignment here at CCC, where every small group studies the same thing at the same time, all centered on the same topic as Sunday morning. This year for alignment we will be focusing on the book One Month to Live.

What if . . . you only had one month to live?

Would you shift your priorities? Would you spend your time and energy differently? Would you live more intentionally? Would you live more passionately? Would you love more completely? If you only had one month to live, what would you do to make sure every minute of your life mattered?

Here at CCC we’re using the month of October to refocus ourselves and live well the one and only life God has entrusted to us. Be a part of it all from October 10^th – November 7^th as we see what it would be like if we had One Month To Live.

One Month to Live books are available in the lobby at CCC for $15 (that’s 25% off the cover price). We hope that you’ll grab a copy and begin to investigate what it might mean to live as if we had one month to live.

Starting Point This Sunday

This Sunday, September 19 will be the next Starting Point, happening from 9am-10:45am in suite F, right next door to CCC. It’s the perfect place to go if you are new or have any specific questions about Community Christian Church. You’ll get a clear picture of all things CCC. (History, vision, values, beliefs, what it means to be a Christian, what it means to be a part of CCC…) Free food and children’s programming is provided. Care Team

Every week there is a group of people available after each service to help you with whatever you may need. Do you have questions about how to become more involved at CCC? Have you been wrestling through an issue or a question about God? Do you feel like you’re at your wit’s end and just need someone to talk to or pray with?

That’s why the Care Team is there. If you need to talk about anything at all, make sure you grab someone on the Care Team after service.

Starting Point This Sunday

If you’ve been around Community Christian Church, you may have noticed we don’t look exactly like other churches. This might have you wondering about some things. How did CCC get started? Who’s on staff at CCC? What does CCC believe? What’s my next step at CCC?

Starting Point is a two-hour gathering where we’ll take a closer look at who CCC is and where we’re going in a fun and casual environment. It is our hope that everyone, whether Sunday is your first week or if you’ve been coming to CCC since the doors opened, will find his or her way to Starting Point.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and at CCC a great place to start is at Starting Point. If you haven’t been to Starting Point before, it might be the next step for you at CCC.

Financial Small Group

If you know how to drive, someone taught you how.

If you know how to play a sport, someone showed you the ropes.

If you’re reading this, someone taught you the letters and how to piece them together to make words.

We don’t expect any of these skills to develop on their own; they are taught and learned.

Learning how to manage our finances works the same way. It takes tools and skills to navigate the realm of money well. We are offering a small group aimed at teaching some of these basic financial skills, such as budgeting, addressing debt, and insurance, just to name a few.

This group will begin meeting on April 22^nd at CCC from 7 to 9 PM and will run for three sessions, meeting every other week. If you are interested in more information or would like to join this group, please contact Nic Cox at 410.933.8330 or nic.cox@communitycc.net.

Good Friday Guides

The Friday before Easter, traditionally known as Good Friday, is an important day in the life of those who follow Jesus. Good Friday is when we specifically set aside time to remember the suffering, trial, and death of Jesus. Our faith is built upon the events of that dark Friday and the triumph we find in the resurrection on Easter Sunday. There are many ways to observe Good Friday, the day Jesus died on a cross for our sins.

We encourage you to gather together with your small group, family, or friends to remember the price Jesus paid for us. We’ve created a Good Friday guide to help as we engage more deeply with Good Friday.

In my experience, this is one of the most deeply meaningful times I’ve ever spent with my friends and small group. The opportunity to read together the story of Jesus’ betrayal, trial, and death is powerful. The chance to celebrate communion in a smaller setting while remembering the last supper is stirring. Praying together while reflecting on the last words of Jesus is moving. (And that’s just three of the suggestions listed in the Good Friday Guide).

Starting Point This Sunday

Fit-To-Be-Tied Group Starting on Feb 28

The next session of Fit-To-Be-Tied is ready to launch this Sunday, February 28th. Fit-To-Be-Tied is a small group for couples who are considering marriage or are leading up to their wedding. It meets on Sundays for a total of 8 weeks, 2 hours each week. Any couple considering taking the wonderful, yet challenging step of marriage should make this small group a priority. Connecting at CCC

There is one word that comes up over 100 times in the New Testament portion of the Bible. This part of the Bible was originally written in Greek, and the word is allelon (pronounced al-lay-lawn) which means “one another.” Over and over again in the Bible we are told about how we should act toward one another. Here are just a few examples:

Romans 12:10
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Ephesians 4:2
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

Colossians 3:13
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Hebrews 10:24
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

1 Peter 4:9
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.

James 5:16
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

We are called to honor one another, to be patient with one another, to forgive one another, to encourage one another, to spur one another on, to offer hospitality to one another, to pray for one another, and to confess our sins to each other.

How many of these can we do on a Sunday morning at service? Maybe a couple. We can encourage each other to some degree, and maybe we can be patient with each other. But there just isn’t enough time for these things to happen on Sunday morning. No, if we are going to really live out these “one another” statements we need to have a setting where they are possible.

Here at Community Christian Church the setting is small groups. A small group is when a group of people (a small group of people, obviously) get together to live out these “one anothers.” It is a place where we can learn together, pray together, encourage one another, hold each other accountable, and journey together toward God.

Just imagine what it would look like to be a part of a community that truly lived out these “one another” statements. I don’t know about you, but that’s the sort of place I’d like to be, and that’s the sort of life I’d like to live.
