40/3000

CCC exists to help people find their way back to God.  There are many things along with that mission that inspire CCC Kids volunteers to make a difference in the lives of children and their parents.  There are hundreds of thousands of people within driving distance of CCC who are not a part of any church.  On top of that, experts around the country are tracking the number of college-aged students who grew up attending church, yet are walking away from their faith after high school.  The estimate is between 70 and 80 percent.  That is staggering.  We believe that can change for the better, and the answer is found in the Church and the family partnering together.

The title of this post represents the magnitude of influence that parents have with their children.  You see, CCC might have 40 hours each year with the average child or student while parents will have about 3000 hours.

We acknowledge that parents are the primary spiritual leaders for their children and that is a life-long influence that cannot be matched from any other source.  Knowing that parents will have much more time with their kids, we want to leverage the time we do have to make the parent’s time as effective as possible.  For that reason, every children’s environment and event throughout each age level is built around the context of partnering with the family.

Parents, if you have children in preschool or elementary school, what else could we do to help you?  Click the “Add Comment” link above to give us your ideas.

  1. I think you should make church more fun for middle schoolers because that when you start losing them they are too old for elematary school but sitting in church with adults is too boring for them something needs to ne done for the middle school age

  2. I love the “Drive Time” activities that come home every week with my son. More ideas like that (maybe one for each day of the week?) would be great!

  3. Doug, what ideas do you have for them? Obviously our space limits a separate environment, but what if it didn’t? We know that at some point, students have to transition to the service, even if that’s not until they graduate high school. Our hope is to get them involved in the service, while supplementing that with focused things for them (EPiC, small groups, trips), so early on they begin being established as a core part of the church in way that will exist long after they graduate high school. We would love to hear any ideas you might have about what we could do. Thanks!

  4. Shannon, thanks for sharing! I’m glad you love using them. We’ll definitely talk about the possibility of adding more activities to the card.
